High Holy Days 5781
Enjoy the Holidays from the comfort of your own home!
Dear Friends,
This year is unlike anything any of us has ever lived through in our lifetimes. We’ve temporarily lost so much of what we took for granted, including our traditional High Holiday services. Just because we cannot get together IN the building, doesn’t mean we can’t be together for the Holidays. This year you are going to experience something so incredibly different but yet still so incredibly meaningful, spiritual and … dare I say it … entertaining.
For the last few months teams of people have been hard at work assembling a High Holiday “performance” like nothing you’ve ever seen before. I keeping saying to friends and family that our High Holiday services are going to be as grand as Hamilton! So many people have contributed so much of their time putting this production together — and I am so grateful to each and every one of them.
Our wonderful new Rabbi has been working closely all summer long with Rabbi Fineblum and Cantor Liat to make this year’s High Holidays special, even though we cannot be together. We have hired a production company to film our services. We have created our own Temple Sinai YouTube channel where we will all view services together. The majority of services will be pre-recorded — about 80%. 15% will be via Zoom so we can still “see” our friends and fellow congregants and 5% we will host “in real life”.
This was a tough decision to come to, recording the majority of services — especially since we are all so used to seeing each other every week at Shabbat Services. But when we thought about the things that could go wrong; internet failure, “zoom bombing”, people unnecessarily unmuting themselves, etc, the decision was made that this year’s High Holiday services will be pre-recorded.
In the next week or so you will be getting your High Holiday bag. In this bag you will find everything you need to get you through Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur services … and then some! Keep your High Holiday bag close to you as you watch services, for there are many cool and fun treats you will use throughout the service! Once you get your High Holiday bag, you will see the schedule of events. Codes, links and passwords will be given out when the day gets closer.
I promise you all that NOTHING will be missed and our High Holidays will be as memorable as ever. Thank you for your continued loyalty and enthusiasm. I look forward to experiencing it all with you! Wishing you an early Shanah Tovah 5781.

Two young men in the 2021 Temple Sinai Bar Mitzvah class will be “twinning” with boys who perished in the Holocaust before their own Bar Mitzvah. Our Morah Sara has arranged this through Yad Vashem in Israel and it has a $220 fee per participant. She has, on her own, begun fundraising. If you would like to help, please send a donation in any amount, marked “Twinning” to the Temple office. Thank you!
