Shabbat Across America 2026 Celebration!

Annually, Temple Sinai is a proud participant in Shabbat Across America, a national initiative that unites Jewish communities across the country for a shared, uplifting Shabbat experience. The program is designed to welcome those who may not be affiliated with a synagogue and introduce them to the beauty, meaning, and joy of Shabbat in an open and accessible way. Thanks to the dedication of our incredible volunteers, we were able to create a warm, inviting environment where both members and newcomers felt at home.

This year’s event featured a delicious catered Shabbat meal prepared by former Temple Sinai member Stuart Beck. The aroma of freshly cooked dishes filled the room as people arrived, setting the tone for an evening of comfort and celebration. Our Sanctuary was buzzing with conversation and laughter as guests mingled, met new faces, and shared stories. It was truly heartwarming to see longtime members reconnecting while welcoming those walking through our doors for the first time.

Following the meal, everyone gathered in our small chapel for an especially spirited Shabbat service. The room was filled to capacity; a beautiful sight that energized the entire evening. Children giggled as they eagerly raced to the sanctuary doors to open them for L’cha Dodi, proudly taking part in a tradition passed lovingly from one generation to the next. As voices joined together for Adon Olam, the chapel swelled with harmonies from adults and little ones alike. The intergenerational singing reminded us all of the power of sacred moments shared across ages.

Even after services concluded, no one seemed in a hurry to leave. The oneg was lively and joyful, with people gathered around tables, enjoying dessert and conversation. New friendships formed effortlessly, and many stayed well into the night, savoring the rare opportunity to connect beyond the typical rhythm of a Friday evening.

One of the most inspiring moments of the night wasn’t a single event but a recurring, heart-touching scene: long-time members and brand-new attendees sitting together as if they had known each other for years. It is easy to talk about community, but witnessing it come alive, seeing barriers melt away and genuine connections take shape, is something far more profound. The warmth in the room was unmistakable, the kind of warmth that reminds us why we open our doors, welcome our neighbors, and continue the sacred tradition of gathering together for Shabbat.

Shabbat Across America is more than just a program; it is an opportunity to reaffirm who we are as a community. It encourages us to extend our hands to those seeking connection, belonging, and meaning. This year at Temple Sinai, we did exactly that. We created a space where people could share stories, build relationships, and experience the essence of Shabbat –  rest, joy, and togetherness.

As the evening came to a close, with lights dimming and the last conversations winding down, there was a shared sense of gratitude. Gratitude for our volunteers, who worked tirelessly to make the event seamless and welcoming. Gratitude for our members, who showed up with open hearts. And gratitude for every new face who chose to spend their Shabbat with us.

This year’s Shabbat Across America reminded us that community is built one shared moment at a time. And on that beautiful Friday night, we built many.
